NON au bannissement des pitbulls au Québec

Following the the Quebec headlines related to an entire breed ban, I believe it is important we speak on behalf of an animal who can't defend itself.

An animal is an animal, regardless of its breed or size. We are not entitled to penalize owners of good pitbulls simply because their dog was born under that classification. We should respect the families, citizens, and good people who own a normal pet at home.

To those who fear this breed, think to the basis of your fear. Is it the media broadcasting a wrong or bias message? Is the dog fight stories? Ill treatment? Or maybe a fear of big dogs?

CONSIDERING the pitbull banishment in Ontario did not yield the expected results. That even worse, the number of dog bites is on the rise. We believe this strategy to be ineffective.

CONSIDERING the lack of complete and serious scientific data on the matter, we oppose this easy and thoughtless solution provided under fear and misinformation.

CONSIDERING that veterinary specialists of pet behavior such as Dre. Diane Frank agree that banishing a breed is not the right solution, but rather that diagnosing, evaluating and following up with dogs mental illness as well as the education and socialization of normal dogs and their owners.

CONSIDERING the solution requires the education of our society, through sensitization of the dog owners. For example, through sessions of dog bites prevention towards children, through teaching about the canine body language, through the abrogation of puppy mills, through the mandatory sterilization of pets without a proper breeding permit, through the establishment of precise terms and conditions for the use of terms such as "behavioral specialist", "canine educator", etc.

CONSIDERING that dangerous dogs exit under every breed and every sizes, and that racism has never been a viable solution for our society.

CONSIDERING extraordinary and well-balanced dogs exist in all breeds and sizes, we refuse the euthanasia and human drama that would result in the pitbull banishment.
